EbiLam, born Vusi Malibe in Mamelodi and raised in Ekangala, Bronkhorstspruit, is a South African hip hop artist whose work bridges the spiritual and the cerebral, the ancestral and the futuristic. Rooted in the traditions of underground hip hop and elevated by a deep engagement with astronomy, philosophy, and soulful soundscapes, EbiLam crafts music that is both revolutionary and restorative. His journey began unconventionally—transforming debate speeches into rhymes, and later discovering his voice through freestyle battle rap as a form of self-defense. These early cipher sessions, often held before and after basketball practice, became the crucible for his lyrical discipline and improvisational skill. EbiLam’s writing is guided by what he calls “downloads from the cosmic library”—insights from the universal grid that he translates into intricate verses. His music is a vessel for evolution and emotional healing, designed to expand consciousness and uplift the mental well-being of his listeners. His discography began with two foundational EPs: “Streets of Ek” (2006), a raw reflection of township life, and “The Rock Bottom” (2011), a gritty meditation on struggle and resilience. These projects laid the groundwork for his debut album, “Strings of the Books and Tombs” (2012) ,its art cover was designed by OghestLife now, which featured collaborations with his brothers Exile, VizionOf Spirit, the late Killah M, B.Bless, SirAmp, and Ayza, with production by Trompie the Beat Machine. That same year, he released the music video “Breath of New Life”, a visual statement of rebirth and transformation that marked a pivotal moment in his artistic evolution. He followed up with two more albums: “The WarScepter” (2014), a bold exploration of lyrical warfare and spiritual sovereignty, and “Mabina Tao” (2017), a sonic invocation of ancestral strength and inner weaponry. EbiLam has also hosted poetry sessions during his time in the military, further cementing his role as a lyrical educator and cultural conduit. After concluding his tutoring journey with Grade 11 and 12 learners at his former high school—where he taught mathematics and science—he ventured into creative writing projects, teaching primary school children the art of writing poetry and rap. This initiative reflected his ongoing commitment to nurturing young voices and using language as a tool for empowerment. In 2025, EbiLam released the single “Boombab Taxi” ft. Exile, the first offering from his latest album “Infinite Mind Village Taxi”, recorded at Fixey Fingaz Records. He is currently finalizing another solo project titled “Modimo Wabadimo” at Porcupine Studios, and collaborating with the collective Gramaton Klerics on a group project, including a forthcoming music video for their single “Dintwa Tja Marumo.” EbiLam’s artistry is a constellation of sound, spirit, and science—an ongoing journey through rhythm, resistance, and revelation.
